Eric B. is an American rapper, producer, and DJ. He is best known as one half of the hip-hop duo Eric B. & Rakim, alongside rapper Rakim. He is also the founder of the record label Violator Records. Eric B. was born on November 8, 1963, in Elmhurst, New York. He grew up in Queens, New York, and began DJing at the age of 15. He was inspired by the music of Grandmaster Flash and Afrika Bambaataa. In 1985, Eric B. met rapper Rakim and the two formed the duo Eric B. & Rakim. The duo released their debut album, Paid in Full, in 1987. The album was a critical and commercial success, and spawned the hit singles "I Know You Got Soul" and "Paid in Full". The duo released four more albums before disbanding in 1992. In 1993, Eric B. founded the record label Violator Records. The label was home to artists such as Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott, and 50 Cent. In addition to his music career, Eric B. has also appeared in films such as Who's the Man? (1993) and The Great White Hype (1996).
