Maurice Hines Sr. was an American actor, dancer, and singer. He was born in North Carolina and began his career as a dancer in the 1940s. He was best known for his roles in the films The Cotton Club (1984) and Tap (1989). He also appeared in the Broadway musicals Eubie! (1978) and Sophisticated Ladies (1981). Hines was a member of the Copasetics, a tap dance troupe founded by Bill "Bojangles" Robinson. He was also a member of the Copasetics' offshoot, the Hoofers. Hines was married to actress and singer Carmen de Lavallade from 1960 to 1972. He died on August 22, 2003, at the age of 81.
